Evolution Pilates, located in Pittsford's Northfield Common, opened its doors in July of 2008 after a complete renovation of the loft-like barn space it inhabits. The cluster of barns and rustic cottages that is the Northfield Common felt like a natural match for the type of Pilates studio that owner, Michelle Pritchard, wanted to create. With the picturesque, quiet location near Schoen Place and the Erie Canal, Michelle felt she could imagine a calm and private setting where Pilates clients would feel comfortable connecting to the mind and body. So, in June of 2008, the renovations, on what was once a small pottery store with several dividing walls and storage rooms, began in earnest. After a month of tearing down walls, laying new flooring, painting fresh colors, and assembling the beautiful artisan wood Pilates Apparatus, the renovations were complete.

The spa-like setting that Evolution Pilates has created isn't the only draw, however. In fact, the peace and quiet belies the rigorous

workout that Pilates aficionados are accustomed to. Our instructors are not only Pilates certified, but also highly trained fitness professionals with advanced degrees in exercise. With backgrounds in dance, athletics, and personal training, our instructors bring years of fitness experience to their Pilates teaching. Our goal as instructors is to help our clients gain a greater awareness of their body's potential and set them on a path to achieving their personal fitness goals through the Pilates Method.

The studio boasts five hand-crafted pieces of Pilates equipment, or Apparatus, which are used in each Pilates equipment session. The Apparatus was originally designed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900's as a system of exercise enabling bedridden patients to work the muscles against resistance. His exercise method gained in popularity, and today the Pilates Method, practiced as a series of dynamic mat exercises as well as exercises utilizing the Pilates Apparatus, has entered the fitness mainstream.
